Worm's Eye View
By RF Delderfield
Three airmen, Pop, Duke and Mark, are unwilling and unwanted billetee's in the Bounty's house at Sandcombe in 1942. Bad food and irksome rules are not the least of their trials, and their reinforcement by the quick-witted Cockney, Porter, and his Welsh companion, Taffy, is the sign for them to take the law into their own hands. The locked and forbidden piano is opened and played, and the gas-fire, which has been turned off at the main, is lit. They raid the larder; incite the mild and the amiable Mr Bounty to mutiny against his mean and overbearing wife and his prig of a step-son, Sydney; they persuade Thelma, Mrs Bounty's one and only slavey, to desert her and join te WAAFs; and Mark falls in love with Bella, the Bounty's shy young daughter, and rescues her from her singing lessons and the threat of becoming Sydney's private secretary.
